Islam is the monotheistic faith of submission to the one God (Allah), revealed through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and built on belief in God's oneness, five core practices, and six articles of faith.
The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the literal word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over about 23 years, preserved unchanged in 114 chapters.
A Muslim is anyone who submits to the one God and bears witness to the declaration of faith — joining a single global, multi-ethnic community (the ummah) defined by belief, worship, and good character.
The Five Pillars are the five obligatory acts of worship that frame a Muslim's life: the declaration of faith, the five daily prayers, almsgiving (zakat), fasting in Ramadan, and the pilgrimage (Hajj).
In Sunni Islam, faith (iman) is defined by six articles: belief in God, His angels, His revealed books, His prophets, the Last Day, and divine decree (qadar).
Muhammad ﷺ (c. 570–632 CE) is, for Muslims, the final prophet of God — the man through whom the Quran was revealed, sent as a mercy to all the worlds and an example of excellent character.
